Who We Are
The Brazilian Community and Cultural Center of Hartford, Inc. (BCCCH) was founded with a simple but meaningful purpose: to strengthen the Brazilian community in Greater Hartford while creating opportunities for individuals and families to build a better future.
Since opening its doors on September 25, 2004, the Center has served as a place where people can find support, learn, connect, celebrate their heritage, and become part of a stronger community.
Our work brings together education, cultural programs, community services, health and wellness initiatives, recreation, and partnerships. Through these efforts, we seek to preserve Brazilian heritage while helping children, adults, and families navigate life in the United States and pursue new opportunities.

Our mission is to strengthen the Brazilian community by providing educational, cultural, social, and community services that create opportunities, preserve our heritage, and inspire future generations.
We believe that cultural identity and integration can go hand in hand. Our goal is to help younger generations understand and value their Brazilian heritage while growing into active, caring, and engaged members of the communities where they live.
The BCCCH began in 2004 in a donated storefront on Park Street in Hartford’s Parkville neighborhood. From its beginnings, the Center was created to respond to the needs of the Brazilian community and provide a welcoming place for people seeking information, assistance, education, and connection.
Over the years, the Center developed programs and partnerships in areas including English and Portuguese language education, community support, health, recreation, cultural activities, and assistance with navigating services in the United States.
Its work has also extended beyond Connecticut, maintaining connections with institutions and communities in Brazil and supporting humanitarian efforts through donations and international assistance.
Leadership and advocacy have always been an important part of the Center’s story.
Through the leadership of Ester Sanches Naek, the Brazilian community achieved a significant milestone with the establishment of the Brazilian Consulate in Hartford. Her efforts included organizing the community, leading a petition campaign, and working with public officials to make essential consular services more accessible to Brazilians throughout Connecticut and neighboring states.
Her work reflects the Center’s broader commitment to building bridges between communities, institutions, and nations.
